Reconstructing Individual Films

The restoration work is based on a philological reconstruction of individual films. For each feature, medium-length and short film, the best existing elements in the world are recouped, a consolidated practice that allows the most complete and best-preserved parts to be identified through a careful analysis.

Chaplin’s Versions

As well as obtaining the best possible sound and image quality through analogue and digital restoration, the final goal is to reconstruct the films in the versions by Chaplin, taking care to preserve the filmmaker’s variations.

Despite differences in individual cases, this basic method has been followed for all the restorations completed from 1999 to the present: from The Kid to Modern Times, passing through Monsieur Verdoux, Limelight, The Chaplin Revue trio, The Circus, Pay Day, City Lights, A Woman of Paris, A King in New York
