A Legacy For All

This is the place to come for anyone interested in the specialist study of film and photography, or anyone working in the field of film programming. The wealth of the archives, run by highly qualified staff, make the Bologna Cineteca a unique research centre in Italy, of interest not just to local researchers but to students and experts from all over the world.

Guaranteeing Preservation and Access

The constant acquisition of increasingly important collections has seen the institution’s prestige grow, leading public and private organizations, collectors, critics, writers, producers and film experts to choose to entrust their own collections to the Cineteca so they can be preserved and made available to students and researchers.

Conservation Using the Newest Technology

Special initiatives have been launched in recent years in order to make some of the documents available online, such as the work on the Chaplin Archive and the project to upload the Società Corona Cinematografica’s films to the internet. These initiatives demonstrate the Cineteca’s commitment to the protection and promotion of its precious archives, often in innovative ways that make use of the most recent technology, whether at its physical location in Bologna or at the new digital frontiers of cyberspace.
