From Silent Film to Today: A Story in Moving Pictures
Over 40,000 films, mostly 35mm and 16mm, covering the entire sweep of cinematic history from the silent age to our contemporary period, from great artistic masterpieces to long-forgotten genre flicks, from lavish productions to amateur experiments. This is the heritage of the Cineteca’s film archive. In recent years it has evolved greatly, thanks to an attentive acquisitions policy and an understanding of the importance of entrusting materials to a structure experienced in the complex field of conserving and cataloguing films. The archive’s spirit of welcome and acceptance goes against the common logic of disposal and discarding which marks the mainstream film world.
