Film Education For Schools

Schermi e lavagne (screens and blackboards) is a film-education project covering Bologna and its surroundings, involving schools of every level and kind, university students and teachers. Set up in 2005 to bring together the various audiovisual-related activities already present locally into a single educational perspective, it coordinates a series of initiatives to instruct and entertain. Multidisciplinary classes for students deal with cinema, literature and other artistic forms, alternating with courses for teachers and instructors held by film experts and academics.

Hands-On Workshops

Practice and theory come together as students learn how films are made, studying the basic elements of how to draft a screenplay, produce a short documentary or make an animated film in a series of specific workshops organized by the Bologna Cineteca throughout the year. These are often held as part of the major festivals like Officinema, Slow Food on Film and Cinema Ritrovato. A series of events to explore the comic spirit of Charlie Chaplin have also been organized as part of the Chaplin Project.

From Cineclub to Cinenido, Films for Fun

In addition to educational courses, Schermi e lavagne also offers a series of fun activities, like the Cineclub film club for children and teenagers, screening recent films, classics from the Cineteca archive and new discoveries from children’s film festivals every Sunday and on holidays. The screenings are accompanied by presentations from teachers or film critics. Then on Saturday afternoons Cinenido–Visioni disturbate (Cinenursery–disturbed shows) presents films from the current season and gems from the Cineteca archive for parents with babies in tow.

Guaranteed Quality

An international technical committee, composed of directors, film critics, writers, university teachers and members of the organizations and institutions participating in the project, supervises all the activities and guarantees their quality. Schermi e lavagne, promoted by the City and Province of Bologna and coordinated by the Cineteca, also benefits from important collaborations with the University of Bologna (Faculty of Education Science and Department of Music and Performing Arts), Ibby Italia (International Board on Books for Young People) and Europa Cinemas.
