Books and Films in Dialogue

Cinema and literature, or better, viewing and reading, are the two protagonists brought together in this single festival. The idea for Le parole dello schermo (the words of the screen) came from Angelo Guglielmi, literary critic, television-channel director and culture councillor for the city of Bologna, and the festival takes a close look at the relationships that link the world on paper and the world on film, examining their interlacing while never losing sight of their equal artistic, ideological and cultural dignity.

Migratory Flows and the Collective Imagination

Every year a squadron of writers and directors, literary and film critics, editors and producers descend on Bologna from around the world to participate in round tables, meetings, readings and screenings. They come together not just to examine the migratory flows between books and films, but also to delve into the multi-faceted universe of the collective imagination to explore the reciprocal and far-reaching effects they have on each other. It is a wide-ranging journey, spanning that great narrative archipelago which cinema and literature fertilize through their bidirectional exchange.
